“We as people of color, we have to create a culture of cycling in our neighborhoods that allows us to express ourselves, that allows us to use bikes as a way to speak to who we are,” said Oboi Reed, co-founder of Slow Roll Chicago.
For advocates and bicycle riders from outside those communities, there is still a big role to play. Advocating for policy change requires a substantial time commitment – time to make phone calls, send emails, attend council meetings, volunteer at community events, and network with neighbors.
